BANA Elects New Officers For 2021
and Welcomes New Board Member at Fall Meeting

The Braille Authority of North America (BANA) held its fall meeting virtually in November, 2020. During its three-day meeting, the BANA Board reviewed semiannual reports from its eighteen general and technical committees--each of which works on specific charges from the Board--and acted on recommendations from these committees.

Jen Goulden, the recently appointed representative for CNIB, was welcomed as a new board member. Jen previously served as the representative for Crawford Technologies, an associate member of BANA. Newly appointed as the representative from Crawford Technologies is Holly Bullock.

Amber Pearcy was welcomed as the newly appointed representative from the National Braille Press.

The board established its 2021 budget and elected officers for the upcoming year. The elected officers are:

  • Chair: Tamara Rorie (National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled)
  • Vice Chair: Mary Nelle McLennan (Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired)
  • Secretary: Jen Goulden (CNIB)
  • Treasurer: Danette Johnson (Hadley)
  • Jennifer Dunnam serves as BANA's Immediate Past Chair.

The board acknowledged the recent decision of the Associated Services for the Blind to close their braille production service and their withdrawal as a member organization in BANA.

The next meeting will be hosted by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Library of Congress, and will be held virtually May 6-8, 2021.
